It lies at the west territory of Athens suburbs along the ancient so-called “Iera Odos” (denoting in Greek language the ”Sacred Route”). The municipality has been named after the mount Egaleo from where the Persian king Xerxes watched the destruction of his fleet by the Greek fleet during the historical sea battle of Salamin</span><span lang="EN-GB" style="">a.
